In 1204 AD Thassos was given to Enrico Dandolo doge of Venice. Under the venetian rule reconstructions were made in the city and city walls and at the same time a palace was built on the acropolis.In 1261 AD Thassos is again in the Byzantine state by the efforts of the emperor Michael Palaiologos who reoccupied Constantinople. Moving on to 1306 AD Thassos was ruled by Tidedias Zacharias but in the beginning of 13th century St John knights occupied it and then the Venetians, Spaniards and others. In 1315 AD Andronicus II tried to remove the island from the Calatans but not succesfully. Thassos by the end of the Byzantine until 1455 AD was ruled by the Gatelouzzi family when then the Turks invaded and occupied it.
